BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag)
If you’re heading to the shops, don’t forget to pack your reusable bags in the car. TESCO shoppers get extra points on their TESCO cards for doing so. Ditto for JUSCO shoppers who carry their reusable Jusco bags. In Sunway Pyramid, shoppers who bring their own bags and spend at least RM50 on Tuesday gets free parking. But with or without freebies, you are already a winner for cutting down on plastic bags.
Save everything...
According to NACHA-The Electronic Payments Association (formerly National Automated Clearing House Association), an NGO in the US, for every 38,000 bills paid online, 2294kg of greehouse gases are avoided. That’s literally the weight of a baby blue whale!. Plus it saves an additional two tonnes of wood. Online payments also save on stamps, cheque fees, petrol and time.
Guilt-free Ambience.
There’s nothing better than softly lit lamps to create a relaxing ambience in your home। It’s great for reading, listening to music or simply snuggling with a loved one. Unfortunely, most table lamps are fitted with energy-guzzling incandescent bulbs, sometimes up to 100W. That’s a lot of power to burn. These days, compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) have evolved sufficiently to provide the same ambience and brightness minus the high-energy demand. A 11W CFL can provide the same brightness as a 60W bulb, plus they come in soft tones to enchance ambience. Convert to CFLs to reduce your electricity bills as well as carbon footprint.
Fume-free, fuss-free cooking
When non-stick pans first made an appearance years ago, little did we realise that the special coating releases chemical fumes upon reaching 260 C, polluting the air and our food। A new alternative is the GreenPan, which promises non-stck cooking without the dilemma., as it can withstand higher temparature without emitting noxious fumes. Moreover, its manufacturing process releases 60 per cent less carbon diaxide emissions into the atmosphere. Better for health, better for the enviroment.
